Cats are groomed on our 'cat days' which means we groom cats when there are no dogs in the salon. This makes it a lot more welcome for your cat and ensures one-on-one attention for your kitty. All cats are required to come in for a no-charge assessment prior to grooming. This is so we can meet your cat, discuss their grooming with you, and go over any questions or concerns you may have.
If your cat is in desperate need of a grooming due to heavy matting/knotting and cannot wait until our next Cat Day, special arrangements can be made to get your cat in sooner, but an additonal charge of £15 will be added to groom your cat around the dogs that are already booked in so your cat can be grooomed on their own. We simply will not sacrifice your cats well-being and have him/her become stressed if a dog should bark at them.
Cats should always be treated like the princes & princesses that they truly are.
We cater to the
spoiled cats that turn into the “leave me alone”
kitties when they’re away from their owners. We have the extra
patience needed to calm and reassure these ones to ensure their day at
the spa is as relaxing as possible. We
deal also with a lot of rough and tough outdoor cats who have gotten
into sticks, weeds and who-knows-what else. These can be especially strong-willed, quick to use their claws, and sometimes in very poor shape. We have
all of the safest and most effective equipment to get the job done
quickly, so that they can go home and get back to catching birds & moles in the garden!
Aside
from the scared cats and aggressive cats, most cats are very well-behaved. Many cats who used to misbehave at the groomers,
are little angels here. If your skeptical and don’t believe us when we tell you
that cats can enjoy grooming; stop in and simply observe us on one of our cats days. You’ll see haircuts, bathing, de-shedding, blow-drying and so
on.
We WILL:
- Groom diffcult and agressive cats that have been turned away from other groomers.
- Include in our prices EVERYTHING your cat may need for grooming.
- Bathe every cat that comes in for grooming.
- Use only the best & safest products, tools and equipment.
- Do whatever you may want as long as your cat's temperment will allow.
- Charge
accordingly for the task at hand. If your main concern is price rather
than the safety of your pet and the quality of our work, we are not the
groomer for you.
- Always accept new clients and reward referrals.
- Accept most major Credit/Debit cards and cash for payment.
- Have
a very quick turn-around time. Three hours is the maximum time any cat
will be here for grooming. We are able to accomodate cats if their
owners are unavailable for immediate pick-up. Multiple cats from the same home will require more time for grooming.
We WILL NOT:
- 'Push'
a cat beyond what it can bear. Aggression is able to be dealt with and
worked around, but severe stress may make grooming stop.
- Raise our price(s) without the client knowing, nor does a client leave its cat without knowing what they will pay upon return.
- Brush
out or clip unwashed fur. It is pointless and painful for the cat. If
you think your cat will not tolerate bathing please see the FAQ's below.
- Use cheap shampoos and junk equipment that will only damage your cat's skin and coat.
- Use dangerous practices such as "bucket bathing", cabinet drying or scissoring. We use only the safest techniques.
- Cut Corners-We do not shave
everything that comes through the door. We want your cat to be
beautiful with a gleaming healthy coat. Haircuts should always be an option, not a necessessity. If your cat is severly matted though, we may
have no choice but to clip the fur short and start over.
- Groom your cat when there are dogs in the salon. If you cannot make it to one of cat days we can accomodate you at an extra charge, to schedule your cat around our dog appointments.
- Have the lowest cat prices in around, but we are BY FAR giving your cat the very best treatment. We know how to correctly handle your cat to reduce stress, and always have at least 2 people per cat so he/she can feel safe & secure.
My Cat HATES water!
Many cat owners avoid bathing their cat altogether. Bathing often makes owners think of their cat clawing up the wall or worse, their arms! Contrary to what you may have heard though, most cats tolerate bathing
very well. In fact, most cats enjoy the bath & drying more than any other part of grooming. Professional grooming is
unlike anything you can attemp at home. We have invested years in the best knowledge, training, tools, products, and equipment
to get the job done safely and quickly. Yes, some cats are nervous,
but with patience & reassurance, many cats learn
to tolerate and even enjoy the grooming process.
My cat is REALLY aggressive/nasty at the vet and other groomers. Are you sure you can handle him/her?
We can not tell you until we meet your cat. Most cats who have been bad at previous groomers, do great
here. Because our salon is feline friendly & exclusive on our 'Cat Days', there are no loud
scary barking dogs here. We do also, feel that "battle scars," come with this line of work, but we love the job tremendously and
wouldn't change it for anything. Most cats can sense our confidence & patience with
them, and our expert cat handling skills of even the toughest of cats can
reassure them that we am here to help them and not harm. There is no sense
in delaying making an appointment because you're afraid for us! We need to put the cats comfort and health in front of our own.
Cats don't need groomed, they groom themselves, don't they?
Cats LICK themselve, not groom themselves. If you licked yourself all over, you certaily would
not be clean. This form of 'grooming' does NOT eliminate mats in the coat, kill fleas, trim nails, get rid of grease in the coat, stop hairballs, or stop the shedding!! Some cats reek of urine, have faeces stuck under their
tails and don't cover when they use the litter tray. These are the same creatures who sleep on our pillows at
night and leap up onto our worktops and the furniture that our
children and guests sit on. All cats shed, all cats have sharp claws,
all cats have greasy ears, and all cats lick themselves and spread the
dreaded allergy causing dander all over their furry bodies. These are
things that only a well-trained professional cat groomer can get rid
of. There is absolutely no comparison between what a professional can
do in a shop full of equipment, products and tools designed
specifically for the job...and what a cat can do itself.
My cat is short haired so it doesn't need groomed, right?
Wrong. Short haired cats have shorter shedding cycles, meaning the hair grows only to about an inch, then falls/sheds out. Short haired cats also tend to be greasier than there long haired relatives. Grease mixes with dead fur and turns to clumps andmats. Grease builds up over time and makes a crusty dandruffy coat. This can all be scrubbed away with our spa bath revealing a healthy, clean gorgeous coat!
Why are your cat prices dearer than your dog prices?
Cats are different than dogs in that they don't respond in the same way as dogs do, nor do they give off the same signals as dogs. Cats can be unpredictable, and take alot more TLC to groom properly and carefully. Because of this cats are higher risk to themselves & staff. What you are paying for is a GOOD professional cat groom with kindness, care & the safety of your cat coming first in ALL cases. Even if your cat needs the coat clipping off, he or she will still be neat, tidy & evenly trimmed. Most cats take anywhere from 2-3 hours depending on what he or she needs done to the coat and how many breaks your cat requires.
Sure, your vet can shave a cat in less time, but they typically do it under anaesthetic or sedative so they can just get it done quickly and since they are not groomers they don't have the same equipment that a professional groomer has-meaning it will cost you MORE to go to your vet to have your cat groomed for a shorter length of time and your cat leaves stressed. Our price is fair and worth every penny to have your cat leave stress-free and not dopey!
What happens if my cat DOES get stressed at our salon due to past bad experience elsewhere?
Firstly, if you have concerns, this should be brought to our attention when you enquire about booking. That way, we can discuss the options with you on what you can do to make it less stressful for your cat before s/he even comes in our door. Secondly, we will never push a cat to a high stress level. We accomplish this by 'reading' your cats body language & signals and offering breaks as often as necessary to keep your cat in a nice chilled out state of mind. If required we have aromatherapy shampoos that help soothe, relax & calm your kitty. In extreme cases, the best thing may be to do what we can to avoid stress and if your cat seems to not be able to calm down then to come back for several short sessions of grooming instead of one long appointment. In either case, we do what's best for the cat, and most cats, even ones with previous 'bad' history, do very well with us because they feel safe & secure and can sense that we understand them.
How often should my cat be groomed?
Depending
on your cat's breed, coat type, and current condition; your appointment
span will vary. Most cats benefit from
regular grooming every 6-12 weeks. Long, thick coated breeds such as
Persians, Himalayans, Maine Coons, Ragdolls and Domestic Long Haired
cats really benefit from monthly grooming sessions. Monthly grooming
will completely prevent matting, hairballs, dandruff, overgrown nails,
dirty ears, and cats number 1 enemy: GREASE.
My cat has never been groomed, is it too late to start?
No. We see on a regular basis, cats who are
anywhere from 1-18 years old and have never been bathed, clipped or combed. ALL cats, regardless of age benefit from
professional grooming. Older cats especially benefit from the
calm, gentle, and stress-free kind of grooming offered here. You may
notice that in recent years your once 'fluffy' cat, is now older and
not so fluffy. Older cats suffer from arthritis, fatigue, obesity, and a number of other things that make self-grooming difficult and
even painful. It is imperitive that older cats stay on a regular
professional grooming schedule, or they will become matted. And
shaving old, matted, frail cats can be dangerous and painful to them.
It is best to start your grooming routine now, as a preventitive
and maintenence routine so that these things never become a problem for your beloved cat.
