ABOUT US
At Ultimutt DogZone, our priority is QUALITY, not quantity. We have over 3 decades of working with dogs.
We have been training & showing dogs since 1993 and have extensive knowledge of dog behaviour and
learning theory (with over a century of science to back our methods
up!). We use methods that are humane and effective so you can get
the best out of your dog, and enjoy yourself too. We use reward based, positive reinforcement training methods. We offer solutions from puppy training to serious behaviour problems. We've been grooming dogs for show since 1994, and professionally as a pet groomer since 1998. Our grooming is first class. We strive for
perfection into every trim. We book only a limited number of appointments for grooming each day so your dog or cat can feel comfortable and welcome in the salon.
We won't sacrifice your pet's well-being in order to groom more animals. We want you to know our aim is to treat your pet as if they are our own!
We are trained in Pet First Aid & CPR and are members of the English Groomers Group. We also compete in Grooming Competitions and attend as many lectures, conferences and workshops as we can. Keeping ourselves involved with learning and competing keeps our skills sharp, and enables us to give you and your pet the very best!
Heather
Heather is the Owner, Head
Groomer & Trainer of Ultimutt DogZone. She gained her certification
as a pet dog trainer from Animal Behaviour College in Northridge,
California. Animal Behaviour College is featured as a recommended school
for dog trainers on Victoria Stilwell's website, positively.com.
Heather has over 17 years in training & grooming dogs, but has had
dogs her entire life. She has placed in grooming competitions, and her
list of accomplishments with dogs include obedience titles, agility
qualifiers, PAT dogs, and Champion points & CRUFTS qualifiers. She
has handled and shown many dogs in the breed rings, mainly Golden
Retrievers, Akitas, Afghan Hounds, Borzoi, Bernese Mountain Dogs,
Pyrenean Mountain Dogs, Poodles, Mastiffs, Foxhounds, Flat Coated
Retrievers and Otterhounds, just to name a few.
Heather is commited to further
education and is trained in Pet First Aid & CPR. She also is a
member of the English Groomers Group, and attends as many lectures and
seminars as possible regarding grooming & dog training. Her idea
behind Ultimutt DogZone was to create a place that cares for and treats
dogs like her own: with positive training & energy to make both
training and the grooming process alot more enjoyable.
Nick
Nick is Heather's husband, AKA 'Kennel
Boy'. He is our primary dog walker & bather and makes sure all the
dogs in the salon get plenty of attention & cuddles. He can help
answer your questions about dog training, book your dog or cat in for
grooming and knows his stuff when it comes to dog nutrition! He washes
and dries dogs, and if you don't see him in the salon, it usually means
he is out running doggie errands and tending to the walkies. Nick also
acts as Heather's agent when it comes to booking her for seminars,
lectures & workshops.
Haylei gh
Hayleigh works part time in
the Grooming Salon as a bather & receptionist. She's been around
animals her whole life and currently lives with a Shih-Tzu (which her
mum lets Heather colour & practise Creative Grooming Styles on!)
& a
Bullmastiff. Hayleigh enjoys working with animals and playing with the
dogs at the salon. Hayleigh will be pursuing an NVQ in Customer
Relations in 2011.
Emily
Emily works part time in the
Grooming Salon bathing dogs on occasion when we are in our very busy
season. She has worked in rescue centres and has a true passion for
dogs. Emily has wanted a Rottweiler for as long as she can remember and
now that she has one, says she's everything she could have hoped for.
She shares her home with Bettie, her softie Rottie, and two Jack
Russells, Darla and Dipzy.
LOLA
Lola is our Tibetan Terrier (or
Tibetan Terror as we lovingly like to call her). Her job is to greet
the customers & provide your dog with a playmate during breaks being
groomed. She likes to 'talk' to our clients, and is very talkative when
it comes to her doggie friends, especially when they leave as she
doesn't like to see them go. She would rather play all day with
everyone! You are usually likely to see her in a wide variety of
haircuts (and colours!) as Heather will be competing with her at
grooming competitions and can't keep her scissors away! Despite her
vocal greetings, Lola is trained to do a variety of tricks, has an
uncanny tracking ability, and LOVES to be petted and paid attention to!
